The Boston Police Department said that just after 11:30 a.m. on Monday, officers on patrol looked up a license plate on a car that they noticed didn’t match the registration.

According to WFXT, officers then conducted a traffic stop but the 13-year-old boy refused to stop even at a slow speed. Eventually, officers were able to get him to stop. Officers got him out of the car and saw a firearm fall from his leg area.

“The firearm was determined to be a .380 Ruger loaded with one (1) round in the chamber and (5) rounds in the magazine,” said police.

The boy has been booked into a juvenile facility on recommended charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, operation of a motor vehicle without a license, attached registration plates, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and refusing to stop for a police officer, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
