LAS VEGAS — A patient in a Las Vegas hospital is accused of stabbing two other patients, killing one of them.
Police told KLAS that the suspect, who they identified only as a man in his 40s, left his room and went into another room, where he stabbed the patient inside. That patient died from his injuries.
Police said the suspect then stabbed a second patient in the hallway, KLAS reported. That second patient was able to escape.
Lt. Jason Johansson with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told KSNV that the suspect and both victims were psychiatric patients, and that all three were in an emergency room area where patients receive treatment.
Security in the hospital responded to the attack within one minute, and investigators told KSNV that corrections officers who happened to be in the hospital for an unrelated assignment also responded to help take the suspect into custody.
Police told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that they are investigating how the suspect got a knife.
