Officials: 3 US postal service workers in Pennsylvania charged with theft

PENNSYLVANIA — Three people are facing federal charges for stealing mail while working for the United States Postal Service, officials say.

In multiple news releases, the United States Attorney’s Office Western District of Pennsylvania announced charges of mail theft for multiple people.

India Schatzman, 47, has been charged with stealing a gift card from the mail on Dec. 30, 2022, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Adam Gallagher, 38, has been charged with mail theft on Oct. 19, 2022, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. According to the WPXI, Gallagher reportedly stole three letters, packages, bags, or mail addressed to people in Cranberry and New Brighton, Pennsylvania.

Christina Ankney, 39, has been charged with stealing mail on May 19, 2022, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. WPXI reported, Ankey allegedly stole U.S. currency from an envelope addressed to someone in Murrysville, Pennsylvania.

Prior to the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s involvement, the United States Postal Inspection Service conducted an investigation, the news releases said. All three were employed by the U.S. Postal Service during the suspected thefts.

If convicted, Schatzman, Ankney, and Gallagher could face five years in prison, a fine of no more than $250,000, no more than three years of supervised release, or a combination, the news releases said.

The current employment status for Schatzman, Ankney, and Gallagher is unknown, according to WPXI. All three have been indicted by a federal grand jury.
