If a New York worker travels to a state that’s at high-risk of the coronavirus, they could lose out on paid sick leave.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order Saturday saying, “If we are going to maintain the progress we’ve seen, we need everyone to take responsibility,” WCBS reported.
High-risk states have positive test rates higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or a 10% positive heat rate over a seven-day rolling average.
One loophole will protect workers who have to travel at their employer’s request.
Cuomo’s office said the order is in response to a person who recently traveled to Florida before attending a high school graduation ceremony.
The latest order is similar to one that said if New Yorkers traveled to a country that had a level two or three health notice per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, then they would lose paid sick leave, according to the governor’s office.
