The teenager, who was not identified, had been reported missing by his parents on Aug. 12, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Deputies said in the news release that information from the course of their investigation led them to the home of Kelly Simpson, where they found the missing teen inside.

Simpson is an employee of the Charlotte County Public School District, WTSP reported.

Deputies said in the news release that Simpson was placed under arrest for knowingly concealing the teenager despite knowing he had been reported missing.

Simpson is accused of picking the teenager up from an unknown location and then having him stay at her home, WFLA reported. Deputies did not offer any motive for Simpson’s alleged behavior.

In a statement to WINK, the district said: “Charlotte County Public Schools takes an incident such as this very seriously. The safety, protection and well-being of our students is a top priority. The teacher arrested was employed at Charlotte High School and has been placed on administrative leave.”

Simpson was charged with interference with custody of a minor, WTSP reported.
