PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — A man is in critical condition after crashing his truck into a Georgia gas station Sunday morning, injuring multiple people and shooting himself in the head as bystanders attempted to help him exit the vehicle, WSB-TV reported.

According to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a multi-vehicle accident and possible shooting at Al’s Exxon in North Dallas, the TV station reported.

Deputies confirmed to WSB that a white GMC Sierra crew cab truck was traveling southbound on Georgia Highway 101, when it appeared the driver purposefully left the roadway and drove through the Al’s Exxon sign.

In addition to striking the gas pumps, the Sierra driver also struck multiple vehicles. Although several bystanders were wounded in the crash, none of their injuries appear to be life-threatening, deputies confirmed to the TV station.

Witnesses told deputies that bystanders checked on the truck’s driver, and he grabbed a handgun and shot himself in the head. He is currently listed in critical condition at an area hospital, WSB reported.

The driver has not been identified publicly, pending notification of his family members, deputies confirmed to the TV station.
