Ian Alexander Jr., son of Oscar-winning actress Regina King, dead at 26

Ian Alexander Jr., the son of actress Regina King, died Friday, several media outlets have confirmed, he was 26.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, People and “Today,” Alexander died two days after his birthday.

Alexander was the only child of the Oscar-winning actress, who shared him with record producer Ian Alexander Sr., “Today” reported.

While no cause of death has been officially confirmed, People and “Today” reported that the younger Alexander died via suicide.

LoveBScott was the first to report the news of Ian Alexander Jr.’s death.

“Our family is devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian,” King said in a statement on Friday. “He is such a bright light who cared so deeply about the happiness of others. Our family asks for respectful consideration during this private time. Thank you.”

King, 51, who won an Academy Award for best supporting actress in the 2018 film, “If Beale Street Could Talk,” had previously praised her son’s musical talents on social media, writing in 2021 that she was “still beaming” a day after watching him perform.

A musician and disc jockey, Ian Alexander Jr. performed under the name “desduné,” according to his Instagram page. His most recent single, “Green Eyes”, was released two weeks ago, NBC News reported.

Several performers expressed their condolences on social media.

“Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Garcelle Beauvais tweeted, “My heart breaks for you @ReginaKing Ian was sweet & kind.”

Marc Lamont Hill tweeted, “Sending all of my love and condolences to Regina King. I pray that she’s surrounded by love and healing energy.”

Marlee Matlin, who starred alongside King in the 1999 TV movie “Where the Truth Lies,” tweeted: “I am absolutely heartbroken for Regina King. Please keep her and her family in your thoughts.”
