American Legion Riders Post 245 3rd Annual Nut Run Fundraiser and Bike Show
On Armed Forces Day Saturday May 21st. The American Legion Riders Post 245 will host the 3rd Annual Nut Run in Seguin, Texas. Riders of all types are welcome to support and join the ALR to ride the beautiful country side going through: Luling, Waelder, Moulton, Shiner, and Gonzales heading back into Seguin with a few brief stops. Registration is from 9AM to 12 noon, First bike out at 10AM and last bike in at 3PM Meal served at 2PM. Cost for the ALR 3rd Annual Fundraiser and Bike Show $20 for riders and $10 for passengers, meals are included. Prizes and drawings as well as a silent auction. Bike show winners will receive trophies. All proceeds benefit Veterans’ programs. Come join us in supporting the Veterans by riding with, being an onlooker and/or just having a great time. “Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders: Treatment Update” is an educational program providing information on advanced treatment options and community resources for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders. Presented by Methodist Hospital, the Blue Bird Auxiliary of Methodist Healthcare, and Medtronic, the program will be May 19, 2016 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Omni Hotel Colonnade, 9821 Colonnade Boulevard. Keynote speaker is Jim Morris, former major league baseball player, Parkinson’s disease survivor and deep brain stimulation patient. Walk from Obesity Saturday, May 21th
In the United States, more than 93 million individuals are affected by obesity, increasing the risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and many other diseases. Help us improve the lives of those affected by the disease of obesity by participating in this one-mile walk to raise funds for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Foundation. Sponsored by Methodist Healthcare Weight Loss Center, the walk will be May 21, 2016 at San Pedro Springs Park. San Antonio Herb Society June Meeting
Please join us for our June meeting on Thursday June 9th. The San Antonio Herb Society will present a program by John Sells. John is a Master Gardener who loves plants. June 17-19, 2016 Kendall County Fair Grounds - Boerne Boerne Berges Fest Directors are proud to announce the 50th annual Berges Fest to be held June 17 - 19 at the Kendall County Fair Grounds in Boerne. Started in 1967 that first year we had one food booth and the Boerne Village Band for entrainment; 49 years later we still have the Boerne Village Band together with lots of other great entertainment. The town of Comfort is kicking off Independence Day weekend on July 2, 2016 with its annual celebration that combines a star-spangled parade and a community barbecue dinner with family fun. Drawing visitors from throughout the state as well as Hill Country residents, Independence Day in Comfort encourages everyone to celebrate how great it is to be an American. With red, white, and blue bunting and flags draped from the town’s many turn-of-the-century buildings, the town of Comfort captures the spirit of patriotism so prevalent in rural America in times past.The parade begins at 10 a.m. and travels from the Downtown Historic District along High Street to Comfort Park, 403 Highway 27, where there is a Texas-style barbecue dinner, live music, vendors and family fun from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The celebration continues back in the Historic District with live music with big band sounds, food vendors, and great shopping from 2 to 6 p.m. Visitors can register to win gift certificates at participating merchants. Immunization Records No Longer Available at Metro Health Downtown Location
Immunizations records will no longer be sold at the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District downtown building located at 332 W. Commerce as of today. The immunizations clinic, located inside the Frank Garrett Community Center at 1226 NW 18th Street, will be the sole location to obtain an immunization record. In order to obtain an immunization record from Metro Health, solicitants must meet ALL the following requirements: Immunization must have occurred in the state of Texas, Immunization records must have been provided to San Antonio Metro Health District through City of San Antonio clinics or City-affiliated health providers, Provide proof of identification with an official form of ID, Parents will need to show proof of relationship (i.e.: birth certificate), and Pay $5 immunization record fee. Nothing But Nets PSA Campaign: Help Save Lives From Malaria
Now in its tenth year, Nothing But Nets is the world's largest, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a disease which claims the life of a child every two minutes. Inspired by sports columnist Rick Reilly, hundreds of thousands of people have joined the campaign that was created by the United Nations Foundation in 2006. Nothing But Nets has raised $60 million to help deliver nearly ten million bed nets to families in need, along with other crucial malaria interventions. In addition to raising funds for its UN partners, Nothing But Nets raises awareness and voices to advocate for critical malaria funding for the U.S. President's Malaria Initiative and The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
