Whether you play sports or just love following them, this class is for you. Write from the feel of the swinging bat, the bouncing tennis ball. Describe a play by Manu, a home run or double play, breakaway goal or touchdown. This class will explore classic sports themes from team players to sports heroes. Students will read the work of great sportswriters, listen to sports commentators, view films about sports and write about games of all kinds from those on the playground to the stadium.
Price of the class includes tickets to a San Antonio Missions baseball game. Parents must accompany their child, and parents’ ticket cost is not included, but can be ordered through Gemini Ink.

Jim LaVilla-Havelin, recently retired as the Director of the Young Artist Programs at the Southwest School of Art, and is the author of four books of poetry (two of which are about baseball). He is currently editing an anthology of poems and visual art about sport Levelling the Field. LaVilla-Havelin was a member of the curatorial team for the international exhibit Diamonds Are Forever, and was included in that volume. $260
