Goodwill and several community health care providers are teaming up to make preventive health care easy, convenient and affordable. A special Wellness Wednesday event featuring free health and vision screenings will take place March 27 at the Goodwill location on Fredericksburg Road at Vance Jackson Road. Health screenings will be offered from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., including blood pressure, cholesterol, height/weight (body mass index, or BMI) and glucose screenings provided by University Health System (UHS). Prevent Blindness Texas will offer vision screenings, with a voucher for a free full eye exam if necessary. UHSs A Su Salud program schedules qualifying individuals for free cancer screenings and immunizations to be delivered at a UHS site at a later date. The San Antonio AIDS Foundation provides confidential HIV screenings in a mobile van with results ready in 20 minutes. All screenings are offered at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis. The screenings are offered through a collaboration between Goodwill and community health care partners to make preventive health services affordable and convenient by bringing them to Goodwill retail stores.
