All seating will be first come, first serve. Shawn Colvin, along with her friend, mandolin extraordinaire, Paul Glasse, stepped into Gruene Hall one Sunday afternoon over 25 years ago and she said, “I want to play here some day.” She was an unknown singer-songwriter living in New York City at the time, recovering from a strained voice from singing with rock-n-roll bands. Back up in New York, she soon got involved with Fast Folk, a singer-songwriter cooperative in Greenwich Village and over time she became progressively more popular in the new folk circuit. In 1987 she sang back-up on Suzanne Vega’s’ hit song, “Luka”. After touring with Vega, Colvin came to the attention of Columbia Records, and signed a recording contract with the label. She then scored her first Grammy Award for her debut album, “Steady On,”. In 1996, Colvin released her “platinum status” album, “A Few Small Repairs” and in 1997 the success of her single, “Sunny Came Home” firmly catapulted her into the mainstream after spending 4 weeks at the number one spot on the Adult Contemporary chart. The album and song won Grammy Awards for both song and record of the year. Colvin has pretty much been in control of her career all along, and even took time off to raise a family. It took us almost 25 years to get her back down to Gruene Hall, so don’t miss this very special solo performance by Shawn Colvin.
