Hailed by the BBC as “the Galician bagpipe diva,” Pato’s astounding command of the instrument known as a Gaita has made her an in-demand musical powerhouse. Renowned for her dramatic performances, Pato fuses influences of Sephardic, Latin, jazz, pop, and contemporary music to create a sound and vision that is energetic, flamboyant, and virtuosic. In 1998, Cristina Pato became the first female Gaita player to release a solo album, and has since collaborated with some of the biggest names in world, jazz, classical, and experimental music, including The Chicago Symphony, Yo-Yo Ma, The Chieftains, and the Royal Pipe Band. You won’t want to miss this evening of exceptional world music.“Ms. Pato’s sound is unlike any bagpipe playing you’ve heard: imagine the timbres of an oboe, a metal-ready electric guitar, and a screaming trumpet rolled into a single, virtuosic burst of energy.” THE NEW YORK TIMESMigrations: Promo Video from ARN on Vimeo.CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS Artists In Residence Lecture/Class Visit • Friday 11/30/12 • Time TBD • Butler School of Music Hosted by Assistant Professor Sonia SeemanPARKING INFORMATION Please be aware when you come to the performance that UT parking signage has changed.
